“A Prophet has no honour in his own country”, John 4:44 defines just how some of us in the Entertainment Industry sees the response from Love FM towards Gospel Artist Chozenn. Chozenn hasn’t by far “Bawl Out” fowl for banning his song from Love Fm. In fact, not much love has been lost there since the greater market share of Radio belongs to the RJR Group of Companies.
Chozenn cover of the secular raunchy hit “Bawl Out” by Dovey Magnum has received constant rotation locally and internationally. Social Media handle Youtube has records over 2 million views since its debut in August 2017, but did you know that Kiprich also covered “Bawl Out”? With little above 21,000 views of the song via Youtube since its debut in April 2018. Chozenn however, although has released his cover in May 2018, as received above 341,000 views within just one month; so has Chozenn lost any love from Love FM?
Many critiques criticized the song for having the same riddim and flow laced across the eight bars track, almost identical to the original version. In fact, many questioned the artist’s ability to write the cover without keenly attending to the original version.
Here are the word for word comparison for the first stanza:
“Bawl Out” Dovey Magnum
What a feeling
Me love the fuck feeling”
“Bawl Out” Chozenn
Ignore what you feeling
Your purpose God Revealing
Just by its comparison, Dovey Magnum is pleased with the sexual pleasure she is receiving, while Chozenn is ministering to the soul of sinners, advising them to ignore the feeling of sexual desire. Jesus said “I came not to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance” Luke 5:32 is essentially the intent of the song. In an interview with Jamaica’s Entertainment God Father Winford Williams On Stage, Chozenn said that Jesus was radical. He further went on to state that his approach to the gospel is to create an option for the Alkaline, Vybz Kartel and Tommy Lee’s music.
While the church maintains its position on this secular cover, Chozenn is lining up a string on other controversial songs, as he is a man on a mission and declares that “No weapon that forms against him shall prosper and every tongue that rise up against him in judgment condemned”.
Ignore what yuh feeling and tell us, what is this song revealing.
