JCF- INDECOM Needs Better Storage of Recovered Weapons and Ammunition

Better storage of recovered weapons and ammunition needed in the JCF-INDECOM

JCF- INDECOM Needs Better Storage of Recovered Weapons and Ammunition A call is being made for the Jamaica Constabulary Force to ensure that recovered weapons and ammunition are securely stored under police control.

Commissioner of the Independent Commission of Investigations INDECOM Terrence Williams says proper record keeping is also necessary to prevent loss or misuse of weapons.

He says the lack of firearm security creates a significant danger as rogue officers could provide unsecured weapons, to the underworld.

He notes that the lack of accountability can allow for weapons being placed at a crime scene.

The INDECOM Commissioner is recommending that parliament amend the Firearms Act to make it clear that a firearm need not be tendered in court, unless on application, the court requires the firearm to be tendered.
