Major General Antony AndersonNational Security Advisor, Major General Antony Anderson has been appointed as the new police commissioner of jamaica by the Police Service Commission.

The appointment becomes effective March 19 2018.

Anderson, the former Chief of Defence Staff of the Jamaica Defence Force (JDF), will assume the position left vacant following the resignation of George Quallo.

Although Anderson was arguably not the public’s favourite to succeed Quallo, he had been tipped by security insiders as one of the most-likely candidates for the role.

Retired Assistant Commissioner of Police, Keith ‘Trinity’ Gardner backed him and held the view that Anderson is a brilliant person, a man of integrity “and I don’t suppose there would be any objection from any of the ABC countries – America, Britain and Canada.”

Anderson served as Chief of Defence Staff for six of his 32 years in the JDF, before being appointed Jamaica’s first National Security Advisor in 2016.
