Havana meets Kingston
Cuban-Jamaican dream team
Two different worlds and yet so close. Two islands, two histories with a passionate relation to music and two peoples who still place music at the centre of their lives. The unique project of Australian producer Mista Savona brings together Jamaica’s dream team and some of Cuba’s musicians of excellence.
The result is a line-up bordering on indecency: the legends of Sly & Robbie and the Buena Vista Social Club combine their strengths with those of the next generation – Randy Valentine, El Medico, Turbulence – for a summit meeting where rumba, salsa and son Cubano mix it with reggae, dub and dancehall.
The story begins in a dark cellar in a Washington DC neighborhood. Eight friends produce their first roots-reggae sounds. Almost two decades later, the name of SOJA – Soldiers of Jah Army – are headlining some of the biggest festivals.
Their spectacular aura brings together a community of millions of followers around the world. Singing about absolute love for the Earth and the people who inhabit it, their reggae – open to urban influences, rock or electro that allowed them to conquer a wider, more diverse audience – is like the title of their new album Poetry In Motion: a poetic tribute to life.
Warm landscapes bathing in the dazzling sun, dry cracked earth, lined with umbrella pines… Southern Europe, a complete change of scenery on our doorstep. Portugal, Spain, France, Italy, Greece: five countries that offer an extraordinary variety of panoramas and atmospheres.
