Jamaica Green Grotto Caves Ranked Number One In the world!
Green Grotto Caves have become the first caves in the world to receive the prestigious EarthCheck Master Achievement Award.
The 64-acre Green Grotto Caves property in Discovery Bay, St Ann, an attraction that is owned by the Urban Development Corporation (UDC), has become the first caves in the world to receive the prestigious EarthCheck Master Achievement Award.
EarthCheck is the world’s leading scientific benchmarking, certification and advisory group for travel and tourism. The international organisation delivered the great news in November, following the endorsement of the award to the attraction. The Master-Level Certification places Green Grotto Caves as a world leader in the unique group of sustainable tourism operations that are certified by the internationally-recognised EarthCheck Company Standard, a development that has soared its global appeal as a tourism attraction. The latest success reportedly arose from progressive application to take the attraction up the ranks of EarthCheck’s certification programme over a period of more than a decade.
Speaking at a public engagement in November after the good news, UDC General Manager, Dr Damian Graham, was quite reflective.
“In this global village where information is available at the swipe of a finger, we are availed of the opportunity to assess quality in its broadest sense, not just in the Jamaican perspective, but in the global environment, whether it is goods, services, nutritional values and benefits, there are benchmarks against which we are being judged, and where quality comes into play,” he outlined.
“I will share an example with you. The Green Grotto Caves and attractions in St Ann, operated by the UDC, has recently been recognised for achieving 15 years of EarthCheck certification, (and) now progressing to the master level …, the only cave worldwide to be so awarded, based on environmental integrity and observing the highest principles of sustainability,”Dr Graham proudly advised his audience.
