The Ministry of Agriculture, Investment and Commerce has said the country will hear later this week whether the ban that was recently imposed on the importation of corned beef from Brazil will be lifted.
A team of officials from the ministry and the private sector visited Brazil in the wake of allegations that several major meat processors in the South American country were selling rotten beef and poultry.
The local team returned to the island late on Sunday.
Several meat processors in Brazil were also alleged to have paid large bribes to auditors in exchange for fraudulent sanitary licenses.
The team’s findings will be discussed within the ministry to determine whether to lift the ban that was imposed on March 21.
