Could Brexit Mean Constitutional Crisis For Switzerland?

UK’s decision to leave the European Union could cause a constitutional crises for Switzerland.

In February 2014 the people voted to end the free movement of people accord with the EU and the government has been in negotiations with the EU on how to adhere to the will of the people and maintain access to the single market.

Those talks were on hold in the run up to the UK vote but now there will need to be exit negotiations with the UK the Swiss needs are further down the agenda.

Under the Swiss constitution the government must bring in new labour laws by February next year.

But as Pierre Rutschi, the editor of the Tribune de Genève explains this puts Switzerland in a difficult position.

Pierre Rutschi goes on to explain the Brexit decision will affect Geneva and it shocked the locals.
