Youth and Culture Minister Lisa Hanna today announced plans to refurbish the house of Jamaica’s first National Hero Marcus Garvey, transforming it into a heritage site.

Hanna made the announcement during her Sectoral Debate presentation in the House of Representatives a short while ago.

“We are working to resolve the issue of the relocation of persons who occupy the house of national hero, the Rt Excellent Marcus Garvey,” the culture minister said.

She said a submission for resources to assist in this effort was made, citing that it is the aim to start the refurbishing and restoration of the property by the anniversary of his next birthday (August 17).

“We are committed to preserving part of the legacy of this outstanding Jamaican,” said Hanna.
