The 32nd annual ASCAP Pop Music Awards will be honouring RENAISSANCE Disco’s Delano Thomas on April 29 at the Hollywood Hotel in Los Angeles, California.
The ASCAP Pop Music Awards (American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers) honours its top members in annual shows in seven categories: Pop, Rhythm and Soul, Film and Television, Latin, Country,Christian, and Concert Music.
“This award means a lot. I’ve always dreamed about winning one of these awards because it is a big accomplishment,” Thomas told the Jamaica Observer.
We Be Burnin was one of the songs featured on Delano’ Stepz ‘riddim‘, which was released in 2004. That beat also yielded the hits Hyperventilating by Tami Chynn and Capleton’s Or Wah.
Interestingly, We Be Burnin was first recorded for Marsden’s 40/40 label, but never released. It was the first single from Sean Paul’s 2005 Atlantic Records album The Trinity.
The song peaked at number four on the Billboard Hot 100; number one on Billboard’s Pop Songs chart; number two on the UK pop chart; and number two on the Billboard Rap Singles chart. It made the top 10 in over 10 countries.
It sold gold (500,000 copies) in the United States; silver (200,000 copies) in the United Kingdom; gold in Japan (100,000 copies); gold in Germany (150,000 copies); gold in Denmark (7,500 copies); and gold in Canada (10,000 copies).
Last year, the Renaissance Disco celebrated its 25th anniversary.
