Just how much money are people willing to ‘shell’ out to hear Tessanne Chin sing?
According to a report from the Toronto Star, Toronto-based philanthropists Michael-Lee Chin and Raymond Chang are reported
to have got into an unplanned bidding war to persuade season 5 winner
of ‘The Voice’, Jamaica’s Tessanne Chin to sing her first song on
Chin was being honoured at a fundraising banquet held by the University of the West Indies at the Ritz Carlton in Toronto.
She was not scheduled to sing on her visit to Canada, however a ‘spur of the
moment’ bidding saw the auctioneer Gordon Greesy begin the process and
both Mr. Lee-Chin and Mr. Chang joined along.
In the end $40,000 was placed for Tessanne to sing three songs, and she did them in acapella.
Chin began with ‘Bridge over troubled water’, then sang ‘Redemption Song, before topping it off with her own single’ Hideaway’.
Proceeds of the bid will go towards scholarships for the University
of the West Indies. Tessanne Chin will be back in Canada for a May 17
concert at the Sony Centre.
