Children’s advocate probes if … PRINCIPAL PULLS GUN ON STUDENTS

The Office of the Children’s Advocate (OCA) has almost
completed its investigations into an incident at a Westmoreland school,
in which a principal is reported to have pulled his licensed firearm at a
group of his students.

The principal is alleged to have confronted the
students, including a 14-year-old, with his firearm after he reportedly
caught them smoking, THE WEEKEND STAR understands.

Children’s advocate Diahann Gordon Harrison told THE WEEKEND STAR that the investigations are in its final stages and her office will be moving to the next step.

“Our investigators went there and spoke to the boys, the
principal and others,” Gordon Harrison said. “We are now in the process
of documenting our findings and then move to the next step.”

She declined to emphasise on what the next step was.

Information reaching THE WEEKEND STAR is that sometime in
June, the boys, after completing an examination, ventured on to a
property near to the school compound where they began smoking ganja.

According to a report given to the Children’s Registry and
subsequently handed over to the OCA for investigations, the principal
heard of the incident and immediately went over to the property where
upon confronting the boys, he pulled his firearm.

It is reported that some of the boys fled, but others were
prevented from leaving. It is further reported that an adult, upon
seeing the boys fleeing from the property, went to investigate when she
saw the remaining boys and the principal with his gun in hand.

THE WEEKEND STAR learnt that the adult confronted the
principal about pulling his firearm at the children and a war of words
developed between them. When the dust settled, the boys were allowed to
leave the compound and the adult was left crying assault.

The Westmoreland police confirmed that they have received a
report about the adult being assaulted and are currently conducting
investigations.
